Text of: 31375-CS-NonDis-O

Whereas, alcoholic beverages are the source of many of the problems in society; and

Whereas, tobacco is a known cause of many diseases, especially lung cancer; and

Whereas, it is desirable for the use of both alcohol and tobacco to be stopped; and

Whereas, Rev. Michael Pflegler, pastor St Sabina Catholic Church in Chicago, has established an enviable record of stopping alcoholic sales by winning elections, voting precinct by voting precinct, and also of reducing the advertising of alcoholic beverages and the advertising of tobacco in his parish,

Therefore, be it resolved by the 2000 General Conference of the United Methodist church that we commend Rev. Michael Pflegler for his work in opposing the alcoholic beverage industry and the tobacco industry.
