The Committee recommends concurrence as amended as
follows:
Amend the last paragraph to read:
Although we We respect and seek dialogue with
persons of all religious faiths and we defend the right of religious
freedom, we. We reaffirm that, "there is salvation in
no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given among mortals by
which we must be saved." (Acts 4:12 NRSV)
Minority Report
Substitute the following for the entire resolution:
Title: A Call to Faithful Dialogue
The Council of Bishops has affirmed that "The decisive victory has already
been won in Jesus Christ" and "We know that in Jesus Christ, all the fullness
of God was pleased to dwell, and through him God was pleased to reconcile to
himself all things, whether on earth or in heaven, by making peace through the
blood of the cross."
We are eager to bear witness to the deeper truths we find in such words,
even as we seek greater understanding of the faith of others. We respect and
seek dialogue with persons of all religious faiths, and we defend the rights of
religious freedom for all.
We are saddened by the frequent misunderstandings and conflicts between
people of different religious traditions. We do not seek to perpetuate such
tragedies, for the God we meet in Jesus Christ is love beyond measure. In the
spirit of Christ, we gladly affirm whatever is good and true in other faiths.
We are confident that that same spirit will be received as good news by many
who engage seriously in dialogue.
