The Committee recommends concurrence as amended as follows:

Amend Part V, Sec. I of the BOD (pg. 114) to read:

The mission of the Church is to make disciples of Jesus Christ by proclaiming the good news of God's grace ... the vision Scripture holds before us. The United Methodist Church affirms that Jesus Christ is the Son of God, the one and only Savior of the world, and the Lord of all.

The Church affirms and shall be obedient to the words of Jesus Christ in John 14:6(NIV): "I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me." Although We respect persons of all religious faiths, we defend the right of religious freedom, and we affirm that "There is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given among mortals by which we must be saved." (Acts 4:12, NRSV)

Minority Report

Substitute the following sentence for the entire amendment to Paragraph 200:

The United Methodist Church affirms Jesus Christ as Son of God.
