The Committee recommends concurrence as amended as follows:

31806 CS NonDis O

Whereas, in keeping within the spirit of Isaiah 2:4, "God shall judge between the

nations, and shall arbitrate for many peoples; they shall beat their swords

into plowshares, and their spears into pruning hooks; nation shall not lift

up sword against nation, neither shall they learn war any more;"

Whereas, reflecting the church's traditional role as a place of safety and

sanctuary,

Therefore, we petition General Conference that every United Methodist

Church be officially declared a weapon-free zone, and that no firearm or

edged weapons be allowed in the place of worship and in any part of the

church plant.
