1425. 1. The Section of Elders and Local Pastors shall be
responsible for the work of the General Board of Higher Education and Ministry
that relates to persons preparing for the ordained ministry and those currently
serving under the appointment of a bishop. This responsibility shall be
discharged in active relation with schools of theology, jurisdictional boards
or committees on ordained ministry, annual conference boards of ordained
ministry, and appropriate departments of interdenominational bodies. This
section shall be responsible for the promotion of theological education and its
support for the whole Church.

Areas of concern shall include enlistment, preparation, continuing formation,
and career development of persons of all races and ethnic origins and persons
with disabilities in and for the ordained ministry of the Church.
3. The
section shall establish resources for the purpose of enlisting and supporting
the effective ministry of women, particularly in annual conferences where 10
percent or less of full members are women.
4.
The Section of Deacons and Diaconal Ministers shall be responsible for
the work of the General Board of Higher Education and Ministry that relates to:
(a) persons preparing for the office of diaconal minister and order of
deacon, (b) persons consecrated to the office of diaconal minister or
ordained deacon in full connection, (c) persons certified in various
specialized ministries for which an agency of the Church has set professional
standards, and (d) persons currently serving in professional ministry
careers.
